Community and Native

For places where ads that look like ads die: Reddit, forums, niche communities, comment sections. These audiences are unusually good at spotting marketing and unusually hostile to it, and the punishment is not merely being ignored — it is a top comment explaining why your product is bad, attached to your paid placement, seen by everyone you paid to reach. The move is to be useful in public and let the product be incidental. Highest variance in this set: a hit here outperforms everything else on cost per customer, and a miss is worse than not advertising.

What community and native is judged on

Cost per qualified click, read alongside comment sentiment — the number alone is not interpretable here. The landing page has to ask for Something useful without signing up. Any gate here confirms the suspicion the community already had, and the click is wasted. — if it asks for something else, the campaign underperforms for a reason that never appears in the ad account, because people arrive expecting one thing and are shown another.

The offer that fits: genuinely useful content, an open tool, or an honest answer.

It usually fails by undisclosed advertising posing as an organic post

That is the first entry on the list AdPlaybook checks a generated campaign against. The rest:

Surfaces it suits, and one it contradicts

Rated highest for reddit, x. Rated 0.25 or below for youtube, tiktok, meta, pinterest, google — the app will not offer it there, because the surface contradicts the approach rather than merely suiting it poorly.

What the creative has to do for community and native

Match the medium exactly. Where the community writes plain text, write plain text — a designed graphic is a confession. Lead with something genuinely useful whether or not anyone buys: the actual answer, the actual number, the real trade-off. Disclose that it is an ad clearly and early; the disclosure is not the risk, the pretence is. Assume the top comment will be adversarial and make sure the ad survives contact with it. Have someone real ready to reply, in their own name, who knows the subject.
